Ich bin ein Brooklyner who wondered from his homeland and, somehow, survived the Age of Aquarius despite best efforts to the contrary. Guardian Angels do exist, indeed. The posted stories are a mix of fiction genres, including creative non-fiction stories tossed in for good measure. All have been published in a variety of print and/or online venues. Your comments are most welcome. Emails, too. Enjoy.
How could I have ovelooked this. Well done Bob. Hope everything is going well for you and your family.
Fred
Thanks, Fred. Hope all is well with you.
Your comments are very much appreciated out here in the lonesome avocation that is writing 🙂
Happily, one of my stories, “Inheritance For Dummies,” is being reprinted and released this December in a print anthology, A Big Book Of Strange, Weird and Wonderful Vol.II. So, there is some positive movement. Another specfic tale, “Just Add Water,” as yet unpublished, has been short-listed for the next issue of Allegory Magazine.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed…toes, too!
All the best – Bob
I remember reading some of these stories. Amazing when something sticks so long. That’s a testament to your writing ability. There are many stories I’ve read that I can’t recall any part of, but I have pretty clear memories of Betwixt, Luca, Mantle and Me, and The Man Who Fell From the Sky.
Thank you, Doralynn. It’s been a while since I’ve written seriously or with any consistency, let alone submitted work anywhere. Got beaten down too much, I guess.
Paul Negri (skeptikoi) and I meet occasionally for dinner. He keeps a spark glowing in me, though it’s a dim one at best. By the way, Charlotte Zolotow, my “Dandelion Muse” and friend, recently passed away at ninety-eight years of life. An amazing women. God rest her soul.
I like your comments. johngroverbeard@gmail.com.
Bob, I can’t believe that this might be you. I see that you posted a picture of Richie Addison on the web. I was thinking of him this Memorial Day. I remember you very well from our “touch” football games on that Parkway Village maidan, with trees all over and small chain link barriers that didn’t keep us from playing. I remember you in a white shirt, school uniform
Hi Eapen – Yep, I visit Richie’s grave and my Dad’s, as well as other family members most every Memorail Day but not, alas, tomorrow. Knee surgery this past Thrs. has put me out of commission for a bit but I will be heading over to L.I., as soon as possible.
When did we last meet up? I certainly remember playing touch footbal in Parkway Village. Our pictures, nowadays, are a lightyear beyond the image’s our memories have of the handsome, young fellows we once were. Not necessarily in your case but some grissly, old fart seems to have run off with my youth!!
🙂
BTW, I reside in the Hudson River Valley area, about thirty-miles north of the GWB. Occassioanlly, I wander into Manhattan. Do you still live in the New York City area?
Bob
Hello,
Are you the Robert Keenan that taught in Woodcliff Lake?
Hello – Why, indeed, I am. Are you one of my students or colleagues from my days at Woodcliff Lake Elementary School. I taught 5th Grade their among other positions.
All the best – Bob Keenan
I was in your Dorchester Elementary class of 1970-71!
Hello Kim – Bob Keenan here.
1970-71 was my 3rd year of teaching in the Woodcliff Lake Education System. I was still learning the teaching “ropes” back then and had yet (or just had) begun team teaching with Fran Sheffield, a true master teacher who showed me The Way. I certainly tried my best no matter at what point my teaching career had progressed and hope I positively guided you along your educational career. 5th Graders were a real blast to teach, they could get and appreciate my jokes, even the hare brained ones!
After thirteen years, for economic reason (supporting a growing family, buying a house, etc.,) I very reluctantly left teaching, though happily used many of the skills I acquired as a teacher in subsequent vocations. My last such iteration included working with students who were blind and visually impaired as a TVI for the NJ Comm. f/t Blind and VI!
All the best – Bob
Thank you so much for responding back. I remember your long hair and I think you drove a green MG or that could have been another male teacher back then? I’m on Facebook of you want to see more of my life. Kimberley Rogers Powell. I am a lifelong reader and have had a great academic life I’m sure in part to my early education in Woodcliff Lake. We moved to Grosse Pointe Michigan after that school year. Now I live outside of Charlotte NC on a lake. Wishing you the best. Kim
Bob, your name came up today with some of the old FLS crowd and I looked you up on LinkedIn and found you here! Hello! Maybe you know whatever happened to Frank And Ed P? Best to you, Scott Burghart, Lafayette, NJ
Hi Scott – Been a while, indeed. I’m retired from NJ CBVI and living in FL now and still writing a bit. Alas, I have no idea what has become of Frank or Ed, both safe and sound I hope. LOL, I can barely keep track of the old-timer, replying to your inquiry! Turned 74 this past March. Time do fly, indeed. In any case, enjoy one of the posted stories if you like. All the best to you. lad – Bob
Try contacting Richie Favia, still in the stereo field, though up in Maine. His retail business email and phone are: info@LongPlayer.com and 207-647-8649. Good luck.
